Role SynopsisThe Environmental Engineer – Low Carbon is the subject matter expert in supporting bpx’s methane and carbon initiatives through emissions forecasting and accounting of emission projects, certification program coordination, and development of clear, data driven narratives. This role contributes to improving data quality and reporting transparency, and assists in air engineer job duties such as preparation of emission inventories and understanding sophisticated air regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Leading greenhouse gas forecasting by applying strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and sound judgment to recurring planning and reporting cycles.
- Coordinating methane certification and assurance activities by organizing evidence, preparing for audits, tracking actions, and collaborating with internal teams and external reviewers.
- Creating clear, compelling narratives and recommendations that explain methane management and emissions performance.
- Determining insights by capturing inputs, performing quality checks, analyzing trends and variances, and maintaining clear documentation.
- Partnering across environmental, engineering, operations, and digital teams to define data needs, resolve issues, and translate business requirements into practical, scalable solutions.
- Simplify workflows, strengthen data governance, standardize processes, and identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and continuously improve.
- Multi-functional and providing support in traditional environmental areas (e.g., air quality compliance, reporting) as business needs require.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related technical field.
- 8 or more years of environmental, sustainability, or engineering roles with an emphasis on air quality in the oil and gas industry.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into clear narratives.
- Statistical and analytical thinking:
Ability to evaluate datasets, perform basic statistical analysis, and identify trends, anomalies, and patterns in emissions or operational data. - Pattern recognition & problem solving:
Ability to connect data insights to operational drivers and support development of actionable improvements. - Digital and data collaboration:
Ability to work optimally with IT, data, or digital teams to define data needs, troubleshoot issues, and enable delivery of accurate and timely outputs to the business. - Strategic awareness:
Interest in understanding how current data, tools, and processes support broader methane and carbon reduction goals, with the ability to contribute to discussions on future-state improvements. - Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill technical information into clear, stakeholder messaging.
- Exposure to greenhouse gas inventories, emissions data, or sustainability reporting.
- Curiosity about methane management, carbon reduction, or energy transition initiatives.
