At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to design, develop, and qualify payload delivery systems. In this role you will interact across multiple disciplines within New Glenn (NG) engineering teams, mission management, production, launch operations, and interface with external customers. You and your team will directly impact New Glenn launches.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct trade studies and estimates in support of proposals for external facing customer technical projects.
  • Act as a technical advisor and work closely with the engineering design team, mission management, launch operations, production, and launch systems groups to ensure the successful integration of payload requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate the resources necessary to successfully design, build, execute testing, and certify hardware for the Customer and Payload Accommodations team.
  • Review and approve design concepts, drawings, analysis, test plans, qualification plans, manufacturing and build plans, processes and procedures in support of developing flight ready hardware.
  • Work with design and manufacturing teams to identify and resolve technical issues and provide shipside support throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Review and report on monthly cost and schedule variances, corrective actions and supporting nance and schedule updates.
  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership by supporting stang plans, hiring, and training plans.
  • Interface with payload customers to evaluate mission unique requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Integration of customer requirements and development of mission Interface Control Documents.
  • Ensure payload system requirement validation and implementation with the technical teams.
  • Interface with internal and external customers through the mission integration phase, and ensure customer expectations have been met.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements, such as FAA/ITAR/Range, have been met.
  • Support Business Development interactions with external customers leading to mission integration and launch contracts.
  • Lead spacecraft integration and launch contracts ensuring Blue Origin commitments are met on time, on budget, and with success.
  • Develop resource-loaded mission Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and coordinate progress with internal and external customers.
  • Report status updates to leadership customers, mission management, and maintain open lines of communication.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Structural, or other related field).
  • 10+ years managing complex, multi-disciplinary, fast-paced, aerospace projects.
  • 5+ years industry experience in launch system, satellite operations, and dispensing systems.
  • Adaptable and able to lead a team through changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel within U.S. and abroad.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Collaborative, constructive, positive, and concise communicator.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, team building, and people management skills.
  • Experience in development of launch vehicles and dispensing systems.
