Sr. Mechanical Engineering Manager

Citrine LLC is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our mechanical engineering team while staying actively engaged in challenging technical project work. This is an opportunity to take on a leadership role within a growing engineering firm, develop talented engineers and technical staff, and help deliver meaningful projects for commercial, industrial, and government clients.

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will oversee day-to-day operations of the mechanical engineering team, mentor engineers and technical staff, support project execution, and provide technical leadership across a variety of projects. This role will remain hands-on, with involvement in mechanical design and analysis activities including HVAC systems, plumbing systems, equipment selection, and commissioning support.

This position is based in Colorado, ideally candidates be located near Lakewood or Grand Junction, CO with flexibility for hybrid work arrangements. Travel to project sites, client locations, and other Citrine offices is required.

• Lead and manage Citrine’s mechanical engineering team, providing technical direction, mentorship, and support across varying experience levels.
• Serve as the senior mechanical technical lead for commercial, industrial, and government/federal projects.
• Provide oversight and technical guidance for mechanical design activities including:
  • HVAC systems
  • Plumbing and piping systems
  • Process/mechanical systems and equipment
  • Energy efficiency and system optimization
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting support
• Review mechanical engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, quality, code compliance, and alignment with client requirements.
• Provide technical support and guidance on complex project challenges and design decisions.
• Support project teams through design development, construction administration, commissioning, and closeout activities.
• Participate in client meetings, project kick-offs, design reviews, and technical discussions.
• Coordinate with project managers, discipline leads, contractors, and clients to ensure electrical scope is clearly defined and successfully executed.
• Support resource planning, workload balancing, and assignment prioritization across the mechanical team..
• Identify project risks, scope changes, technical challenges, and resource needs.
• Establish and maintain mechanical quality control processes, standards, and best practices.
• Support recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development of mechanical team members..

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, with demonstrated experience leading projects, teams, or technical initiatives.
• Experience managing, mentoring, or providing technical direction to mechanical engineers, designers, or technicians.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems design and analysis for commercial, industrial, and/or government facilities.
• Experience with HVAC systems, plumbing, piping, and mechanical equipment design.
• Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, SMACNA, and other industry standards).
• Experience supporting construction, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, or field activities.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with clients, project teams, and internal stakeholders.
