Job Description & How to Apply Below
Job Code: 0001128
Department: MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING - OPERATIONS Salary: $90,000.00 - $Summary of Position:
The Electrical Engineer designs, analyzes, commissions, and optimizes electrical power systems across Liberty Energy's oilfield and power generation platforms. This role spans low, medium, and high voltage AC and 1000V DC systems, including generation, power distribution, microgrid, and substation applications, supporting both product development and field implementation.
Electrical Engineers work cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines, Manufacturing, Reliability, and Operations to deliver safe, robust, and scalable electrical designs for Liberty's field-deployed systems. Candidates typically bring primary depth in power systems design and commissioning and develop broader fluency across Liberty's full equipment and energy platform over time.
The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with periodic field interaction and demonstrates both technical rigor and practical field judgment. Level placement is determined by demonstrated experience, technical depth, and scope of independent contribution.
Qualifications & Requirements:
The following qualifications apply across all levels. Experience thresholds, certification expectations, and scope of responsibility for each tier are detailed in the Experience Tiers section.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Demonstrated knowledge in:
Protective relay and device selection and instrument transformer (CT/PT) specification
Low Voltage (LV) AC, Medium Voltage (MV) AC, and 1000V DC power systems design and implementation
Power system studies (Arc Flash, Grounding, Load Flow, Relay Coordination, and Short Circuit)
Power Electronics National Electrical Code (NEC / NFPA 70)
Substation design and construction
Power distribution system design
Proficiency in:
ETAP and/or other electrical modeling software
AutoCAD and/or other CAD software
Electrical equipment and cable sizing
Experience Tiers:
Level placement is determined by demonstrated experience, technical depth, and scope of independent contribution. Each tier builds on the requirements and responsibilities of the tier below.
Electrical Engineer I (0-3 Years)0-3 years of experience in electrical power systems design and electrical commissioning. Foundational knowledge across the technical areas above. Works under the direction of senior engineers.
Contributes to the design and implementation of LV, MV, and HV AC and 1000V DC electrical systems under direction.
Supports electrical commissioning in the shop and the field, including testing and validation.
Prepares drawings, one-line diagrams, calculations, equipment specifications, and bills of material with senior review.
Builds foundational knowledge in Liberty's electrical platforms, engineering standards, and the National Electrical Code.
Escalates technical issues appropriately and incorporates feedback from senior engineers.
Electrical Engineer II (3-7 Years)3-7 years of progressively responsible experience in electrical power systems design and electrical commissioning. Demonstrated ability to independently execute designs and commissioning in one or more areas.
Independently designs and implements LV, MV, and HV AC and 1000V DC electrical systems across assigned platforms.
Leads electrical commissioning in the shop and the field, including energization, testing, and live troubleshooting.
Performs power system studies (arc flash, grounding, load flow, relay coordination, and short circuit) and translates results into design and equipment selection decisions.
Contributes to reusable design templates, equipment specifications, and internal best practices.
Provides peer review for Electrical Engineer I deliverables and supports onboarding of new team members.
Electrical Engineer III (7-12 Years)7-12 years leading electrical design and commissioning for oilfield, power generation, or utility systems. Proven track record of technical mentorship, design ownership, and cross-functional delivery. Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
Leads the design of complex LV, MV, and HV AC and 1000V DC electrical systems, including microgrid and substation scopes.
Owns end-to-end design and commissioning of complex or multi-system deployments.
Serves as a quality-control and compliance authority for initial design concepts and final drawing packages.
