Principal Engineer - Engineering Services

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Principal Engineer – Engineering Services that will be responsible for a broad range of detailed engineering designs for multiple high voltage substation and transmission projects through 500 kV. Responsible for performing a broad scope of engineering assignments of advanced difficulty requiring extensive knowledge in engineering related disciplines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the relay protection & control engineering aspects on substation and transmission design projects

• Act as a technical specialist who develops and applies advanced engineering concepts and new approaches to unusual or exceptionally complex engineering problems

• Interface and present to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision makers, project teams, etc.)

• Provide technical leadership on many large and small design projects annually across 69

• Collect data and make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive engineering activities

• Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems, program objectives and requirements, organizing programs, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities

• Responsible for the application of complex engineering skills requiring advanced knowledge

• Review and approve equipment vendor drawings and sign off on testing report on major equipment from manufacturers

• Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement and construction

• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projects

• Mentor, coach and develop junior team members

• Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions

• Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria

• Conduct project detailed designs aligned with our customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice Standards

• Verify that construction is in agreement with electrical engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings, and QA/QC

• Perform data analysis and advanced engineering tasks, calculations and studies to develop preliminary and detailed designs for completion of large and small projects

• Develop and evaluate the technical requirements and standards for fabrication and construction tender packages

• Initiate and maintain extensive contact with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies, requiring skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues
