Position OverviewThe Commercial Loan Underwriter will support the underwriting team in evaluating new loan opportunities secured by industrial owner-occupied real estate. You will assist in reviewing appraisals and third-party reports, analyzing financial statements and working capital assets, preparing credit packages, and helping structure transactions within Briar Capital’s credit parameters.
This is a growth role designed for individuals with approximately 2 years of experience in commercial credit, asset-based lending underwriting, banking, commercial real estate, or related fields.
Salary Range$80,000 – $100,000 base salary - Compensation will be commensurate with experience and includes eligibility for annual performance-based bonuses.
Key Responsibilities Credit & Collateral Support- Assist in underwriting commercial loans secured by industrial, warehouse, and manufacturing real estate.
- Review third-party reports including appraisals, environmental assessments, title commitments, and surveys.
- Analyze borrower and guarantor financial statements, liquidity, and cash flow under supervision from senior underwriters.
- Assess performance of borrower and guarantor working capital assets i.e. accounts receivable and inventory
- Perform credit due diligence on prospective borrowers including lien and litigation searches
- Help evaluate loan structures, advance rates, and covenant requirements
- Support the identification of credit risks and propose preliminary mitigants.
- Prepare financial spreads and collateral analyses.
- Draft credit memoranda for submission and presentation to Credit Committee
- Maintain accurate deal files and ensure all documentation meets internal standards.
- Support due diligence and documentation during loan closings.
- Coordinate with appraisers, environmental consultants, legal, title, and internal team members.

- Approximately 2 years of experience in commercial lending, banking, commercial real estate, or financial analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree - Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics, or a related field preferred; however, other candidates will be considered with adequate experience.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel
- Experience in asset-based lending, bridge lending, or other collateral-dependent lending environments.
- Exposure to underwriting or reviewing appraisals, environmental reports, or title documents.
- Familiarity with industrial/warehouse real estate markets.
