National Jewish Health is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated accountant to join our collaborative Finance team. This professional-level position plays a vital role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data for the institution. - Reconciles bank and balance sheet accounts and prepares journal entries for assigned financial accounts.
- Tracks and accounts for institutional assets from initial acquisition and depreciation through disposal and periodic inventories.
- Maintains capital project spreadsheets reporting on actual vs budgeted costs.
- Prepares financial reports and completes required regulatory filings.
- Supports the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate monthly reconciliation of the institution’s main bank account, including the integration of various sources of data and working with multiple departments to resolve discrepancies.
- Prepares journal entries and reconciliations for various accounts, exercising judgment while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial transactions and account balances.
- Prepares reconciliations, fiscal year‑end work papers, footnotes, analyses and reports reflecting accuracy and substantial self‑review.
- Prepares and files various regulatory, state and agency filings including Sales Tax and Use Tax.
- Participates in full life cycle of assets from acquisition to disposal. Records, reconciles and maintains fixed asset transactions, depreciation, transfers, and disposals within the asset management system and general ledger.
- Evaluates internal controls regarding fixed assets and determines the impact of internal control weaknesses; makes strategic recommendations for cost‑effective improvements to reduce significant business risks within reasonable risk tolerances.
- Coordinates and completes fixed asset audits and inventories, including any journal entries to record or dispose of assets. Whenever necessary, schedules and conducts follow‑up audits to ensure recommendations are implemented.
- Responsible for tracking and reporting on the institution’s capital projects, including setup, expense tracking, variance reporting, project reconciliation and closeout.
- Ensures various monthly, quarterly and annual inventory counts of stores, supplies and pharmaceuticals are completed timely. Prepares all necessary journal entries to record the change in the inventory balance.
- Maintains employee confidentiality and any other confidential information obtained while performing job duties. Ensures compliance with appropriate regulations and legal agency requirements.
