The Opportunity

Private Tax is a growing practice within EY, serving privately held companies and their owners and families. Clients range from family‑owned businesses to private equity‑owned companies, all high‑growth private firms. You’ll work on complex tax planning and compliance projects, cross‑border collaboration, and support your technical tax knowledge, professional leadership, and business acumen.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your unique skills, you may manage technical planning and advising for clients including private entities (C‑Corp, S‑Corp, Partnerships) and high‑profile individuals. You will be a trusted advisor and model for clients and colleagues, coach a highly trained team, focus on quality and commercial value, and collaborate with partners to develop account strategies and deliver additional services.

• Researching tax issues to develop effective tax planning strategies

• Leading teams on all types of tax work from entity to individual

• Translating complex data into client‑ready insights and deliverables

• Building long‑term relationships with clients, understanding their unique needs

• Communicating complex tax issues to non‑tax professionals and clients

• Maintaining reputation by updating and sharing technical knowledge

• Supervising high‑performing teams and sharing best practices

• Identifying and reacting to risks and opportunities to improve services and processes

To Qualify for the Role, You Must Have

• A bachelor’s degree in a related field, significant tax/business/financial planning experience, and a CPA certification or membership in The Bar

• At least 8 years of experience in professional services or a professional tax organization

• A thorough understanding of estate and wealth planning, federal and state personal and trust income tax

• Experience with flow‑through entities (S‑Corps, Partnerships, LLCs)

• Experience with C‑Corps including income tax provisions and consolidated federal and state returns

• Excellent collaboration, negotiation, and confidence to challenge senior colleagues and stakeholders

• Strong understanding of automated tax processing systems and related laws

• Experience managing budgets and projects

• Willingness to travel as needed and working in a balanced hybrid environment

Ideally You’ll Also Have

• A proven record in tax planning for owners and their families

• A proven record in a professional services environment

• Experience coaching and mentoring junior colleagues

Executive presence and business development skills

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

• The ability to adapt work style to collaborate with internal and client team members

Benefits and Compensation

• Competitive total rewards: medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, paid time off options. Base salary range in the US: $132,100–$301,600; specific ranges for NYC, Washington State, California (excluding Sacramento).

• Hybrid model: most roles work together in person 40‑60% of the time.
