Our client is a fast-growing commercial real estate investment firm focused on acquiring, managing, and optimizing a diversified portfolio of properties nationwide. We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on controller to join their Englewood, CO office. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with a strong real estate background who thrives in an entrepreneurial, performance‑driven environment.
Position OverviewThe Controller will play a key leadership role in managing the company’s financial operations, investor reporting, and accounting systems as our client continues to expand its portfolio and investment platform. This position reports directly to senior leadership and partners closely with the VP of Asset Management, CEO, and acquisitions team.
Location: Englewood, CO (Hybrid: 3 days in-office per week)
Salary: $125,000–$150,000 per year
Compensation: DOE + Annual Bonus + Generous Benefits
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all accounting operations across multiple legal entities, including property‑level and consolidated reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and/or tax accounting.
- Manage month‑end close, cash management, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Lead external audits, lender compliance reporting, and tax preparation coordination.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Manage accounting for investor capital, including capital calls, distributions, preferred returns, and promote calculations.
- Track investor equity, ownership allocations, and fund‑level performance metrics.
- Prepare quarterly investor financial packages and support communications with limited partners.
- Coordinate with fund administrators, tax advisors, and legal counsel.
- Optimize MRI and Quick Books systems to improve scalability and reporting accuracy.
- Manage banking relationships and ensure compliance with debt covenants.
- Supervise accounting team members and third‑party accounting resources.
- Implement best practices to increase efficiency and accuracy in reporting and forecasting.
- Support leadership and acquisitions teams with financial analysis, due diligence, and transaction structuring.
- Contribute to underwriting review, refinancing, and disposition processes.
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and portfolio‑level performance dashboards.
- Provide proactive financial insights to support strategic planning and decision‑making.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred).
- Minimum 8 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a controller or senior accounting leadership role.
- Must have strong background in COMMERCIAL real estate investment, fund accounting, or property operations.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, multi‑entity consolidations, and investment waterfall structures.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Self‑starter with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.
