Position DescriptionThe Policy Coordinator reports to the Director of Policy and Research and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Legislative Affairs. This term‑limited position (1) provides administrative support, including scheduling, to the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Legislative Affairs and Director of Policy and Research; (2) supports administrative and operational processes among the Governor’s Policy and Research team;
and (3) supports special projects and policy research as assigned.
- Maintain and manage calendars for the Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Legislative Affairs and the Director of Policy and Research.
- Manage logistics for Policy and Research team weekly meetings, including attending and taking notes.
- Serve as point of contact for conference room and video‑conferencing access for Policy and Research team.
- Work with the Governor’s Scheduling Team to ensure all memos and briefing materials for the Governor are organized and prepared on time.
- Maintain and update relevant contact lists (internal, agency, stakeholders and federal).
- Manage the Agency Report Review Process, track and organize reports, and ensure they are reviewed and submitted promptly.
- Support the Policy and Research office’s workflow, field inquiries, maintain office condition, arrange repairs, send weekly team emails with important documents, and perform miscellaneous tasks.
- Confirm that Policy and Research team are tagged in correct proclamations and review proclamations that don’t fit other portfolios.
- Assign bills in Salesforce to the Policy and Research team during Legislative Session.
- Assist the communications, scheduling and legislative team during the Bill Signing Tour; point on memos for talking points for the Governor and travel as part of the advance team to set up bill signings.
- Assist with research and special projects related to policy initiatives.
Successful coordinators are familiar with governmental and legislative processes. They are detail‑oriented, possess well‑developed decision‑making, research, analytical and project‑management skills, and demonstrate adherence to deadlines while adapting to incoming priority changes. They also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, advanced interpersonal skills, the ability to learn quickly, and the ability to influence and persuade to affect solutions to complex problems.
Additional competencies include the ability to synthesize complex information and research into concise, relevant, logical and organized formats; identify and resolve or minimize potential conflicts in goals and objectives; work effectively in teams; a sense of humor and a positive attitude.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of professional experience in a related field or an Associate’s degree or higher (experience can be substituted on a year‑to‑year basis).
- Applicants must pass a thorough background check prior to employment.
- The selected individual must reside in Colorado at the time of employment.
