Salary range for this posting is:
Hourly: $28.30 - $36.79
Biweekly: $2,264.31 - $2,943.23
Monthly: $4,906.00 - $6,377.00
The Policy Advisor serves as the Office of New Americans’ implementation lead for all policy efforts related to New Americans. This position plays a key role on ONA’s External Relations Team, a newly-developed team leading communications, policy, and external engagement efforts.

This position develops ONA’s policy strategy and assists the ONA Director with the Office’s dotted line to the Governor’s policy office. The role actively monitors state legislation, prepares legislative budget impact statements in collaboration with ONA’s Operations Manager, responds to requests from members of the General Assembly, recommends policy changes to Office, Department, and Governor’s office leadership, and supports the Office Director for hearings and presentations to the General Assembly and Congressional staff.
The role leads ONA’s policy research efforts, staying current on national immigration policy, learning from other states via the ONA Network, engaging with national immigration policy organizations, and identifying state legislative opportunities that would improve the lives of Colorado’s New Americans.

Minimum QualificationsExperience Only:
Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to immigration policy research, communications, development, stakeholder engagement, education, and outreach.
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience equal to six (6) years, in fields such as Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Public Administration, Migration/Refugee Studies, Immigration Law, Master of Social Work, or Juris Doctor (JD). Relevant work includes immigration policy research, communications, development, stakeholder engagement, education and outreach.
Preferred Qualifications- Demonstrated experience in immigration policy analysis
- Policy development experience
- Expert communications skills, both written and oral, to diverse audiences (e.g., legislators, state agencies, New American communities)
- Established relationships with key constituencies for ONA’s work (e.g., immigrant-serving organizations, New American communities)
- Strategic partnership development experience to advance policy priorities
- Experience performing similar duties as a State of Colorado classified employee
- Must be a current resident of Colorado.
- Must pass a thorough background check prior to employment, including the E-Verify process.
- Position is term limited and will expire on January 15, 2028. The selected applicant will be required to sign a waiver of retention right.
