Validation Specialist Onsite - Palo Alto

Pay

Base pay range: $139,180 – $208,780 per year.

Palo Alto, California – on‑site (remote/hybrid not primary).

• Ensure that validation is complete, and that Varian’s products are safe, effective, and meet the user’s intended use with objective test evidence prior to release.
• Evaluate and discuss clinical practices, treatment techniques, and clinical process optimizations with Product Management, User Experience, and Design Engineering teams to define new product requirements.
• Provide continuous feedback and implement improvements to the design, development, and modification of radiation and oncology products and systems.
• Support development and maintenance of Varian products, including Oncology Information Systems, Treatment Planning Management Systems, and Treatment Delivery and Imaging Systems.
• Define strategy for assuring thorough design validation of new products to demonstrate they meet design and intended use requirements.
• Develop, modify, and execute design validation plans to meet product and system requirements.
• Participate in requirements analysis, use case development, and risk/hazard analysis.
• Analyze and write test designs and procedures, establish traceability to requirements and risk mitigations.
• Consult with Product Verification Engineers, Product Marketing, User Experience, and Project Management to resolve usability, requirements, software, and scope problems.
• Work as part of a global development team and travel globally (5‑25%) to support Varian’s validation efforts.

• Either of the following:
  • Current clinical certification/registration as a Radiation Therapist plus five (5) years of Radiation Oncology clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist.
  • Degree (B.A., B.S., or equivalent) plus five (5) years of Radiation Oncology clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist and/or Clinical Applications Specialist using Varian’s products.
• Thorough understanding of simulation, imaging, and treatment delivery clinical workflow scenarios in a radiation therapy center, including proficiency with:
  • Treatment delivery using a variety of techniques including IMRT and VMAT.
  • Performing stereotactic radio surgeries for brain (SRS) & lung (SBRT) treatments.
• Knowledge of radiation safety practices, including safe handling of ionizing radiation equipment.

• Current clinical certification/registration as a Radiation Therapist and clinical experience as a Medical Dosimetrist.
• Proficient and efficient use of the following Varian products:
  • ARIA Radiation Therapy Management software applications.
  • Linear accelerators such as the C-Series, True Beam and/or Halcyon.
• Experience with motion management technologies such as Varian RPM, RGSC, or optical surface tracking with products such as IDENTIFY.
• Basic knowledge of ARIA Oncology Information System for Radiation Oncology and Eclipse Treatment Planning System software applications.
