National Jewish Health is seeking a Clinical Dietitian to join the clinical care team. This role provides evidence-based inpatient and outpatient nutrition assessment, counseling, and education for patients with complex medical conditions, including respiratory, immunologic, metabolic, and chronic diseases. The Clinical Dietitian works both independently and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary care team to support optimal patient outcomes through individualized nutrition care.
Keyresponsibilities
- Conducting comprehensive nutrition assessments and developing individualized nutrition care plans
- Providing patient and family nutrition counseling, education, and medical nutrition therapy
- Managing nutrition support therapies and initiating or modifying nutrition-related orders
- Documenting assessments and recommendations in the electronic medical record in accordance with standards
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives, patient education programs, and ongoing professional development

Position SummaryEvaluates patients’ nutritional status and history. Plans, recommends and implements nutrition care and education at National Jewish Health, following the guidelines, standards and procedures established by the department.
- Performs nutritional assessment by using accurate and relevant data and information to identify nutrition-related problems.
- Identifies and implements appropriate, purposely planned nutrition interventions as part of the patient care team. Prioritizes the nutrition diagnoses, conferring with the patient and interdisciplinary team, reviewing practice guidelines and policies.
- Provides nutritional counseling and education for patients and their families on normal and special nutrition.
- Initiates, implements, and/or modifies orders for diet or nutrition-related care. Manages nutrition support therapies. Perform nutrition-related physicals.
- Documents diet information and recommendations in patient medical records per schedule and standards.
- Demonstrates competency in the use of the following department or institution software programs:
Tempus, Allscripts, Affinity, Patient Trak, Microsoft Word and e-mail. Following key areas as outlined in corresponding competency modules. - Performs special projects to support institutional programs as requested. Develops and updates nutrition education materials, teaching patient education classes, QI participation projects, presentations, skills review participation.
- Participates in all required in-service, team meetings and continuing education as scheduled. Ensures ongoing competency in the field by participating in relevant professional continuing education opportunities.
- Maintains a registered and active AND and CDR membership status, as well as CDE status if applicable. Provides diabetes self-management education (DSME) and medical nutrition therapy to patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

- Care Management: Having the knowledge and skills to secure relevant patient care data and identify key issues and relationships in the management of patient care; understanding the relationships among assessments, interventions, and patient responses; skilled in documentation of assessments and adjusting physical and cognitive prescriptions as needed.
- Patient Relations: Meeting patient and patient family needs; taking responsibility for a patient’s safety, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes; using appropriate interpersonal techniques to resolve difficult patient situations and regain patient confidence.
