Microsoft Fabric Data Integration Architect / Engineer 1 year contract

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Data Integration Architect / Engineer to support the development and expansion of an enterprise data analytics platform. This role will focus on designing and implementing scalable data ingestion solutions using Microsoft Fabric, integrating data from a variety of enterprise, operational, and IoT sources into a centralized Bronze-layer architecture.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of solution architecture expertise, hands-on data engineering experience, and knowledge of real-time data integration. This individual will work closely with technical teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to establish standardized ingestion processes, ensure data security, and develop a scalable foundation for future analytics capabilities.

The initial phase will focus on data source discovery, technical assessments, prioritization, and implementation planning, followed by data ingestion and integration activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable data ingestion architectures using Microsoft Fabric, One Lake, Lakehouse, and Data Factory.
  • Assess and prioritize enterprise data sources based on technical feasibility, business requirements, security, and integration complexity.
  • Develop and maintain data ingestion pipelines using Fabric Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, notebooks, Event streams, and related technologies.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources, including APIs, SQL databases, SFTP, file-based systems, streaming feeds, and IoT devices.
  • Design Bronze-layer data structures following medallion architecture principles, ensuring raw data integrity, auditability, and historical replay capabilities.
  • Establish standards for data organization, naming conventions, schema evolution, retention, error handling, and pipeline recovery.
  • Support real-time and near-real-time data ingestion from IoT sensors, building automation systems, and operational technology platforms.
  • Implement secure data connections, access controls, and governance practices aligned with Microsoft Purview and enterprise security requirements.
  • Validate data ingestion processes through reconciliation, monitoring, error detection, and data completeness checks.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, technical teams, security personnel, and external vendors to manage dependencies and implementation timelines.
  • Develop technical documentation, integration roadmaps, operational runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong experience designing and implementing enterprise data solutions using Microsoft Fabric.
  • Hands-on experience with One Lake, Lakehouse, Fabric Data Factory, Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, and notebooks.
  • Strong understanding of medallion architecture, particularly Bronze-layer ingestion and raw data management.
  • Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines and integrating data from APIs, relational databases, SFTP, files, and streaming sources.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure data services, cloud architecture, and enterprise data integration patterns.
  • Experience implementing secure data connections using managed identities, service principals, gateways, and credential-management practices.
  • Understanding of data governance, access controls, metadata management, and Microsoft Purview.
  • Experience with data quality validation, schema evolution, error handling, pipeline monitoring, and recovery processes.
  • Ability to translate business and technical requirements into scalable architecture designs and implementation plans.
  • Strong communication, documentation, stakeholder management, and technical project coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and implementing IoT or operational technology data integrations.
  • Familiarity with MQTT, BACnet/BACnet IP, protocol gateways, and edge-to-cloud connectivity.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric Event streams, Real-Time Intelligence, KQL databases, and event-driven architectures.
  • Background integrating sensor telemetry, building automation systems, transportation systems, or facilities management platforms.
  • Experience working with complex enterprise data environments involving multiple business units and external vendors.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric Warehouse, and downstream Silver/Gold data processing.
