As Moonshot enters its next phase of growth, we are hiring a Chief of Staff to build the organizational systems and infrastructure that will enable a high‑performing, joyful, and equitable organization for years to come.
THE OPPORTUNITYMoonshot is hiring a Chief of Staff to partner closely with CEO, Kat Ling, and serve as the organization’s strategic and operational architect. This is a senior leadership role responsible for strengthening organizational effectiveness, operationalizing strategy, and ensuring the CEO and Leadership Team are equipped to make high-quality decisions in service of Moonshot’s mission. This is a primarily internal-facing role focused on building the systems, clarity, and operating rhythms that enable Moonshot’s small but mighty team to execute effectively.
The Chief of Staff will lead cross-functional planning, build people and operational systems, establish clear decision-making frameworks, and bring analytical rigor to strategic and partnership decisions. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in complexity, builds clarity from ambiguity, and has the judgment to advise the CEO while driving execution across the enterprise. Because Moonshot is a small, entrepreneurial team of nine, the Chief of Staff will “right‑size” systems—strengthening what works, simplifying where needed, and ensuring processes remain agile as the organization evolves.
THEIDEAL CANDIDATE Strategic & Operational Leadership
- 7+ years in operations, organizational strategy, project management, or organizational effectiveness in mission-driven environments
- Proven ability to translate strategy into actionable plans, clear roles, decision pathways, and resourcing models with an emphasis on designing systems proportionate to a lean team
- Experience building organizational infrastructure such as hiring, onboarding, performance systems, planning cycles, and internal communication systems while avoiding unnecessary complexity or over-systematization
- Strong change-management skills that center equity, transparency, and psychological safety
- High EQ, with the ability to anticipate needs, strengthen relationships, and build trust across diverse teams
- Thrives in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments—comfortable navigating ambiguity, shifting priorities, and continuous iteration
- Build financial models and evaluation frameworks to assess ROI, guide strategic decisions, and ensure new opportunities align with mission, capacity, and strategic priorities
- Develop evaluation criteria and decision-making frameworks that support data-driven choices
- Use data to prioritize, sequence, and resource work across competing demands
- Lead strategic budget planning with cross-functional alignment
- Experience as a trusted advisor to senior leaders; exercises sound judgment and balanced, strategic thinking
- Protect the CEO’s bandwidth by structuring priorities, managing information flow, and establishing quality-assurance processes
- Represent the CEO internally to maintain momentum and alignment
- Maintain organizational continuity during CEO travel or periods of high demand
- Facilitate thoughtful decision-making and navigate complex trade-offs
