Senior Project Manager – Aviation
Populous, a global design firm — specializing in designing aviation experiences that make travel unforgettable — is looking for a Senior Project Manager to collaborate with project leadership, clients, and multidisciplinary teams in the design and delivery of aviation projects, while also participating in marketing and business development opportunities.
What Your Day Could Consist Of- Managing day‑to‑day activities and deliverables of assigned aviation projects, ensuring alignment of resources, quality of deliverables, and accuracy of financial management.
- Participating in business development activities related to airports, terminals and related infrastructure.
- Leading preparation of comprehensive fee proposals, detailed work plans, and defining staffing requirements.
- Fostering ongoing communication through team meetings, minutes and update memos to project teams and consultants.
- Managing project budget, work plans, consultant coordination and schedule, tracking fees and ensuring alignment with contractual obligations.
- Conducting site visits as needed to monitor construction progress, quality and compliance with project documents.
- Building and sustaining cooperative and respectful work relationships with clients and all other external stakeholders, while fostering a collaborative relationship with the Project Leadership Team.
- Providing leadership through coaching and mentorship, supporting the professional development of staff.
- Contributing to the staff recruitment process, including candidate evaluation and interviews.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects of varying complexity of scope and development of project phasing plans specific to aviation projects which include maintaining continuous operations.
- Working knowledge of advanced project delivery methods, drawing software, and production processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of design principles, construction methodologies, and material applications.
- Proficiency with project management software such as Asana or other collaboration tools to track performance metrics, project deadlines, and team goals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel.
- Exceptional organizational skills, including time management, prioritization, and financial management.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and team‑oriented mindset that encourages effective collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to lead meetings and manage agendas ensuring alignment between departmental and leadership objectives.
- Skilled in relationship‑building and business development activities.
- Experienced in coaching, mentorship and the development of staff.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture or related field.
- 15+ years of professional experience in AEC industry with 5+ years project management experience across all project phases in aviation.
- Project Management experience in aviation‑related projects (passenger terminals, concourses or airport infrastructure) is highly preferred.
- Professional licensure as an Architect, Interior Designer or Engineer.
- Experience working with airport authorities and aviation consultants on federally regulated projects.
- Familiarity with FAA design standards, TSA requirements and airport operations.
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint.
- NCAARB or NCIDQ registration.
- LEED certification is preferred.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management coursework.
- Travel will be required.
- Position requires ability to access and move through construction sites safely, including areas under active development.
The projected salary range for this opportunity is $106,525 – $133,157 annually, and may be more or less depending on skills, experience and education. Populous offers a competitive salary and bonus packages.
