What We OfferThe City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $109,134 and $145,000. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include a guaranteed life‑long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service, a 457B Retirement Plan, 140 hours of PTO earned within first year plus 12 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday, 1 Wellness Day and 1 volunteer day per year, and competitive medical, dental and vision plans effective within 1 month of start date.
Location& Schedule
In this position you can expect to work on site at the Emerson Street building located at 1849 Emerson Street and requires work at various locations throughout the City & County of Denver as operational needs dictate. The standard work schedule is Monday‑Friday, however, evening and weekend hours may be required to support programs, events, or emergency response activities.

We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to report directly to the Director of DPR. This role is essential in developing and implementing safety and health procedures across our diverse divisions, including Forestry, Mountain Parks, and Planning/Construction. You will apply technological and scientific methods to reduce worker exposure to hazardous conditions and lead accident investigations and prevention efforts.
Responsibilities- Strategic Safety Leadership:
Develop, implement, and maintain department‑wide health and safety programs, policies, and procedures that support DPR operations and strategic goals. - Regulatory Compliance:
Work with DPR field, engineering and maintenance staff to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA, etc.). - Hazard Identification & Control:
Identify workplace hazards using scientific (e.g. NIOSH) and industrial (OSHA) regulations and implement effective controls to reduce employee risk across diverse environments. - Incident Investigation & Prevention:
Lead accident and incident investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive measures. - Training & Safety Culture:
Design and deliver safety training and outreach to foster a strong safety culture among office staff, recreation centers, field crews, and mountain operations. - Emergency Management Leadership:
Develop and implement DPR safety and emergency management systems, including response to incidents, emergencies, and evolving citywide conditions. - Executive & Stakeholder Communication:
Serve as a primary liaison to DPR leadership during safety, emergency, and security matters, ensuring clear communication and appropriate stakeholder involvement. - Security & Investigations:
