POSITION SUMMARY

At South Platte Renew (SPR), operators work with diverse processes and technologies including renewable natural gas, UV disinfection, process optimization, and research with SPR’s Engineering team. Operators work day, swing, or night shift and may bid for preferred shifts every 6 months. Shift differential applies to swing and night shifts. Operators use rugged laptops in the field for diagnostics and process adjustments.

Work is dynamic, involving optimization, training, team building, and participation in projects and interdepartmental initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follows City of Englewood Administrative Policies and/or the Englewood Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Maintains professional, effective relationships with staff and the public.
  • Trains on wastewater processes (tank levels, chemicals, water quality, flows, pumping systems, and valves).
  • Collects routine data and communicates anomalies.
  • Trains to identify basic troubleshooting needs and reports malfunctions.
  • Maintains sampling supplies and equipment.
  • Conducts field tests (TSS, DO, pH, temperature, alkalinity).
  • Performs housekeeping of work areas and equipment.
  • Participates in safety, equipment, and process training.
  • Reports or corrects unsafe conditions and complies with safety and emergency response procedures.
Other Duties
  • Works toward wastewater certification through continuing education.
  • Assists with snow removal, special projects, and other assigned tasks.
  • Completes time cards and required training.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Water Quality Management, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or related field preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record and valid Colorado driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of
  • Wastewater treatment operations and SCADA.
  • Industrial machinery, mechanical/electronic systems, and process flow relationships.
  • Distribution and collection systems.
  • Regulatory requirements and facility design.
  • Microsoft Office and Windows applications.
Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced computer, customer service, analytical, project management, and general management skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment/process issues and interpret large data sets.
  • Intermediate mechanical skills.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Wastewater Operator in Training

High school diploma/GED. Follows policies and trains on SCADA, safety, sampling, lab analysis, equipment monitoring, and instrument calibration.

Wastewater Operator D

"D" license, 6 months experience, completion of training. Performs Operator-in-Training duties plus monitors wastewater activities and communicates anomalies.

Wastewater Operator C

"C" license, 6 months as Operator D, 1 year in a wastewater utility. Performs D-level duties with additional interpretation of wastewater activities.

Wastewater Operator B

"B" license, 1 year as Operator C, 2 years wastewater experience. Performs C-level duties with advanced troubleshooting.

Wastewater Operator A

"A" license, 1 year as Operator B, 3+ years wastewater experience (4 preferred), plus a qualifying certificate or degree. Acts as lead operator, may serve as Operations Supervisor when needed, provides coaching and training, advises on SOPs, and serves as a subject matter expert.

Note:

All employees must pass the D Certification within 6 months of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires sitting, walking, lifting (up to 75 lbs), kneeling, bending, and working on various surfaces in all weather conditions. May be exposed to noise, hazards, fumes, odors, and chemicals. Work occurs indoors, outdoors, and in industrial environments. Position requires shift work, with possible on-call, night, weekend, or holiday hours.

HOURLY RANGES
  • Operator-in-Training - $19.75-$29.62/hourly rate
  • Operator D - $22.31-$33.47/hourly rate
  • Operator C - $25.21-$37.82/hourly rate
  • Operator B - $28.49-$42.74/hourly rate
  • Operator A - $32.19-$48.29/hourly rate

Signing bonuses are available for qualified candidates.

Annual certification pay:

  • Operator D - $500/annually
  • Operator C - $1,000/annually
  • Operator B - $2,000/annually
  • Operator A - $3,000/annually
