Mittera is looking for a full‑time Press Assistant to join our growing team! Press Assistants provide additional support within the Press Department and are responsible for assisting their crew by loading/unloading printed products in preparation for shipping as well as assisting in operating sheet‑fed offset printing press, performing other in‑line finishing operations as assigned, and helping to prepare and maintain the presses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Set and adjust feeder to run in register without tripping off.
- Get or make ready skids to deliver through press.
- Dispose of make ready when directed to do so by press operator.
- Follow the ticket and make rule out check that trim lines are accurate.
- Check that counts are accurate along with ups and outs.
- While running keep constant eye on feeder to adjust.
- Cut down cardboard for pallets and make boxes as necessary.
- Keep ink fountains with plenty of ink as directed by pressman.
- Always keep work area and areas around the press clean by picking up paper, cleaning equipment and other areas as directed, sweeping, and mopping areas as needed.
- Help press operator with press, washing blankets, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Assist operator in hanging plates.
- Assist operator in setups and make‑ready, including hanging blankets, feeder setup, coater setup, check water fountain solution, get PMS ink if needed from shelf.
- Follow all PPE and safety procedures and assist operator, and department in identifying areas for improvement in safety.
- Perform quality check for any printing issues, missing color, scumming, etc. and alert operator of any issues found.
- Perform preventative maintenance on stacker, tying machines, and other equipment.
- Cross train in other roles as assigned by supervisor.
- Ensure production meets department goals and metrics.
- Always keep and leave area clean.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- 1–3 years of previous manufacturing/office experience preferred.
- Full comprehension in reading work instructions and business memos.
- Effective communication skills with all levels within the organization.
- Ability to use basic math skills, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurements and critical thinking, to solve practical problems.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must have the ability to work effectively in stressful situations and meet stringent deadlines.
- Be organized and able to plan, prioritize and follow through on projects assigned with minimal supervision.
- Has basic computer skills.
- Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling, and bending.
- Pushing/pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity and coordination.
- Requires near visual acuity.
- Requires working around and operating departmental equipment.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility.
- Requires the ability to function in a professional manner under stressful circumstances.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous materials. A production employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
