Where Wood Meets Steel is a small, hands‑on shop in Denver, Colorado, designing and building high‑end custom furniture and architectural pieces in wood and steel. We specialize in working with locally sourced trees—milling, drying, surfacing, and transforming them into unique slabs and finished pieces.

SummaryWe’re looking for a Woodworker / Sawmill Operator who can help us mill logs, process slabs, and fabricate custom wood pieces. Ideal candidates have a strong woodworking foundation and some slab and sawmill experience, but we’re open to training the right person who brings a great attitude and solid shop skills. Comfort with heavy machinery and consistent attention to safety are essential.

- Fabricate wood and slab products per project specs
- Surface, flatten, plane, sand, and prep slabs for use or sale
- Assist in custom furniture builds and specialty milling projects
- Perform high‑quality prep and finishing work
- Operate the sawmill to turn logs into slabs and lumber
- Assist with log staging, offloading, slabbing, stacking, sealing, and tagging
- Evaluate logs and material for quality and yield
- Help with kiln drying, moisture checks, and slab inventory
- Safely operate forklift and other heavy equipment
- Maintain and clean woodworking tools and machinery
- Perform basic troubleshooting; mechanical skills are a major bonus
- Assist with lumber sales, customer slab selection, orders, and occasional deliveries
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe workspace
- Participate in installations when needed
- Solid woodworking experience (slabs and furniture a plus)
- Ability to safely operate standard woodworking tools
- Understanding of shop safety practices
- Attention to detail and strong measurement/math skills
- Able to read basic drawings (CAD experience is a bonus)
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Experience operating a sawmill
- Forklift/heavy equipment operation
- Mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Experience with hardwood slabs, drying processes, or specialized milling
Physical Requirements
This role involves physical, hands‑on work in a shop and yard environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Key physical requirements include:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 80 lbs
- Ability to stand, bend, squat, and walk for extended periods
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions (heat, cold, uneven ground) when handling logs or milling
- Ability to operate and safely work around heavy equipment and large materials
$28–$35 per hour, DOE
, with opportunities for additional training and skill growth.
Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
, with occasional weekend work as needed.
Primarily shop‑based in Denver, with some deliveries and on‑site installations.
