SUMMARY
We anticipate the need for one or more Control Specialist in Denver, CO. The hourly pay of this position is $63.95.
DUTIES- Direct operators to start, stop and adjust equipment as necessary.
- Start, stop and control various power plant systems that include fans, pumps, regulators, etc.
- Control and monitor various plant systems and direct operators as necessary.
- Makes load changes as directed or as system demands.
- Takes corrective action of all kinds to maintain safe conditions for operating personnel and all equipment while obtaining maximum load as conditions warrant.
- Works to maximize plant efficiency and minimize costs.
- Monitors and inspects control panels reporting abnormal conditions and taking corrective actions when needed.
- Train operators and new controls employees in job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- May be assigned to work in lower operator classification on a rotating basis.
- Ensure the plant operates safely and remains in compliance with plant permit requirements and governmental regulations.
- Verify the plant is operated in accordance with technical specifications of hydroelectric plants.
- Monitor and operate multiple remote hydroelectric plants using SCADA controls.
- Prepare and maintain proper LOTO clearances using eSOMS, and SAP within Xcel's safety protocols.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must work rotating shifts.
- Must respond to overtime and callouts.
- Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hardhat, safety toe footwear, and protective eye wear, and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Must have Control Board Operator experience (preferably on Factory talk), completed a control operator/specialist apprenticeship (or equivalent), and with a minimum of 2 years’ experience operating a large, combined cycle power/coal plant (or equivalent).
- Candidates will be required to pass a written and practical test prior to selection. Knowledge of equipment operation such as pumps, control valves, motor controls with integrated power plant operations experience and is able to demonstrate general control operator knowledge through testing and/or interview.
- Successfully pass the Xcel Energy screening requirements, which include a drug screening test and a general security clearance.
