The Department of Facilities Management supports the mission of the University of Denver's physical resources to provide a healthy and safe educational environment for campus community through services of Capital Projects and Planning, Facilities Management, Parking & Mobility Services, Auxiliaries & Real Estate, and Business & Operations.
Position SummaryUnder immediate supervision, this position performs grounds maintenance and landscape gardening work on all property owned by the University of Denver.
Essential Functions- Lay sod, plant new shrubs, trees, and flowers.
- Operate equipment to spray, fertilize and aerate lawn areas.
- Operate power lawn mowers and tractors for cutting grass.
- Operate trucks, tractors, and other machinery in the routine care of all grounds.
- Move equipment on university properties using trucks, hand carts, dollies, hand trucks, forklifts, and other equipment.
- Pick up, collect, and remove litter and debris from all ground areas.
- Receive material ordered by Physical Plant when not delivered by common carrier.
- Remove snow using power equipment or shovel from parking lots, sidewalks, exterior stairs, ramps, and terraces.
- Rototill, spade, rake, weed, and fertilize flower-planting beds.
- Trim and/or prune hedges, shrubs, and trees.
- Trim grass with edger or trimmer.
- Water lawn and planted areas by hand or sprinkler systems.
- Move various equipment, supplies, and furniture manually or by truck.
- Perform minor repairs, lubricate and sharpen equipment; report complex repair needs to supervisor.
- Make minor repairs to parking lots.
- Install signs.
- Remove trees.
- Perform landscape installation.
- Drive to sites with tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow detailed but easy-to-follow procedures; daily priorities are established and monitored by Supervisor.
- Some knowledge of standardized routines and the ability to follow oral/written instructions involving multiple steps.
- Must be able to report to work early in the morning, weekends, and holidays for snow removal.
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiar working with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software, including WebTMA.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year experience in grounds gardening and/or nursery work.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License and insurable by the University of Denver's insurance carrier.
- Pass a pre-employment physical exam and lift 100 lbs.
- Knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Outside in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles; may work at heights and near wet or humid conditions, chemicals, electrical risk, and vibration.
- Noise level is usually loud.
- Moderate to strenuous physical effort required.
- Frequent bending, crouching, sitting, standing, reaching, and repetitive motions.
- Operation of semi-heavy machinery including mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, and other power-driven equipment; work from ladders/scaffolds up to 40 feet.
- Ability to work outside in all weather; lift and move objects over 100 pounds; vision requirements as specified.
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Schedule may vary.

Salary and BenefitsThe hourly range is $22.34. Salary grade 05. The University of Denver offers benefits including medical, dental, retirement, paid time off, tuition benefit and ECO pass.
