Biology (Bat-Avian) Field Technician - East of Denver, CO

We are seeking dedicated Biological Field Technicians for a seasonal temporary position starting June 2025 through June 2026 or beyond, depending on project needs. The role involves implementing post-construction mortality monitoring at wind facilities, including locations in Arizona, Indiana, Texas, Colorado, or Wyoming, specifically southeast of Denver, CO.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct mortality monitoring beneath wind turbines.
  • Identify and record bird and bat carcasses.
  • Collect data on fatalities accurately.
  • Perform bias trials such as searcher efficiency and carcass persistence trials.
  • Work outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.
  • Drive and navigate off-road using a 4WD vehicle.
  • Utilize GPS, compass, range finder, iPad, and cameras during fieldwork.
  • Follow safety protocols, including defensive driving and site-specific guidelines.
  • Perform additional related tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, wildlife management, biology, or related field.
  • Interest or experience with bats and/or birds preferred; enthusiasm encouraged.
  • Strong identification skills are a plus but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ESRI Field Maps, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently, detail-oriented, positive attitude.
  • Effective communication skills with team members and clients.
  • Ability to walk long distances in variable outdoor conditions, up to 12 miles per day.
  • Comfort with outdoor hazards such as wildlife, insects, and vegetation.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.

This is a temporary position without benefits. Benefits may be available if converted to full-time employment.
