Position SummaryFull‑time, in‑person essential position focused on maintaining plant infrastructure, irrigation systems, grounds, roads, and supporting interdepartmental projects. Requires Colorado residency and availability for call‑back, shift work, and weather‑related duties.
Responsibilities- Apply horticultural and landscaping skills: pruning, trimming, fertilizing, and applying herbicides/pesticides according to federal and state regulations.
- Operate lawn mowers, tractors, dump trucks, snow plows, trenchers, and other state vehicles.
- Maintain, repair, and install irrigation, Maxicom, and other satellite systems.
- Perform road and sidewalk maintenance—repair hazards, remove debris, sand and ice, and ensure safety.
- Assist other departments (electricity, plumbing, construction) by excavating, shoring, insulating, back filling, and compacting as needed.
- Design and implement landscaping projects, including cost estimating and project management.
- Respond to call‑backs and perform essential services outside normal business hours.
- Demonstrate safe operation of machinery including jackhammer, skids—steers, tamper, and hand tools.
- Report maintenance issues and malfunctions to supervisor.
- Operate CDL‑required equipment such as dump trucks with air brakes.
- At least one year of large-scale landscaping, grounds maintenance, or irrigation experience in parks, golf courses, schools, or campuses.
- Valid, non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license (out‑of‑state license holders must obtain a Colorado license within 30 days).
- Successful completion of Motor Vehicle Checks, TB test, and background check as required.
- Availability for shift work, call‑backs, and weather‑related duties.
- Experience designing and maintaining large landscaping projects.
- State service experience and competency with irrigation and grounds technologies.
- Must be a Colorado resident at application and throughout employment.
- Must provide proof of vaccination or medical/exempt documentation.
- Must be willing to travel within the state in state vehicles.
- May experience exposure to hazardous materials and weather extremes.
