Job Summary

The Event Chef directs and coordinates all aspects of off‑site kitchen and food production operations, leading a diverse team to deliver exceptional culinary experiences. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills, together with the ability to train and motivate team members. As a polished representative of Catering by Design, the Event Chef ensures that each event is executed with professionalism, creativity, and collaboration—bringing the client’s culinary vision to life through world‑class service and innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises, coordinates, and participates in the activities of cooks and other associates engaged in preparing, cooking, and serving food; ensures all food handling, sanitation, and customer service standards are met.
  • Supervises hourly kitchen associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, reviewing performance, and recommending disciplinary action.
  • Efficiently prepares high‑quality food items according to standardized recipes to meet production, delivery, and service schedules.
  • Ensures proper presentation, food quality, portion control, and maintenance of proper serving temperatures.
  • Tracks food use, waste, and consumption to requisition or purchase products.
  • Receives and inspects product and supplies for quality and quantity to maintain appropriate inventory.
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils; cleans workstations thoroughly before leaving area and keeps display equipment clean during service.
  • Interprets Special Event Orders and related notes to plan staff assignments and meet timelines.
  • Follows company Standard Operating Procedures and event‑specific notes.
  • Provides clear direction of assignments and timelines.
  • Ensures proper use and return of CBD equipment to the shop.
  • Maintains respectful partnerships with venue staff and fellow vendors.
  • Executes efficient breakdown and safe load‑out of event setups.
  • Completes detailed event evaluations and communicates staff performance concerns as needed.
  • Ensures accurate time punches for event staff.
  • Completes required responsibilities upon return to the warehouse.
  • Helps select and develop recipes and menus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Prior experience as an event chef in a catering setting is required. Candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation.
