Grounds Maintenance - Denver

Overview

This position is open only to Colorado state residents. The Division of Facilities Management – Northern Division manages 1,400 acres of land and 349 buildings covering 3.8 million square feet. Responsibilities include maintaining irrigation systems, Maxicom system maintenance, roads and asphalt repairs, and care of lawns, shrubs, flowers, and trees in regulatory compliance.

• Apply horticultural and landscaping skills to trees, shrubs, and lawns by applying herbicides and pesticides according to federal and state regulations.
• Manicure and shape shrubs with electric trimmers.
• Operate lawn mowers, tractors, dump trucks, snow plows, trenchers and state vehicles.
• Perform irrigation maintenance, repair, and installation.
• Prevent hazardous accidents by removing ice, snow, debris, and sand from parking lots, walkways, and door entrances.
• Monitor and repair slip, trip, and fall hazards on sidewalks, pathways, and building entrances.
• Repair roads and streets using proper tools and materials in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Operate snow removal equipment.

• Demonstrate proper operation of jackhammer, lawnmower, skid steer loader, tamper, electrical, gas and hand tools.
• Report any maintenance issues or malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Operate equipment that requires a CDL (e.g., dump truck with air brakes).

• Assist department lead in the design and implementation of landscaping projects including design, customer input, cost estimating and project management.
• Provide assistance to electrical, plumbing, and construction departments by removing debris, excavating electrical and plumbing ditches, and supporting running electrical and plumbing lines.
• Perform other duties such as water main repairs.

This is a full‑time, in‑person, essential position that requires responding in person to call‑backs after hours for essential or emergency services. Work may include various hours for coverage outside normal business hours due to weather such as snow removal or emergencies.

• One year of large‑scale landscaping, grounds maintenance and irrigation experience in environments such as parks, golf courses, schools, or campuses.

• Experience designing and maintaining large landscaping projects.

• Must successfully pass Motor Vehicle Checks and possess a valid, non‑restricted Colorado Driver’s License. Out‑of‑state license holders must obtain a Colorado license within 30 days of employment start date.
• Must be a Colorado resident at time of application and throughout employment.
• Full pre‑employment criminal background check will be conducted and must be passed. Felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude or related misdemeanors may disqualify.
• Must travel to sites within the state and attend training/meetings as necessary.
• Must be willing to receive annual influenza vaccination or provide medical or religious exemption.
• Must successfully pass a TB test and be available for call‑back and shift work, including coverage outside normal hours and exposure to hazardous materials and inclement weather.
