Facilities/Security Electronics/Fire Alarm Technician II

Position with Colorado Department of Revenue. This role designs and implements new systems to update antiquated electronic systems and upgrades, repairs, and maintains a wide range of electronic and safety systems including fire alarms, electronic door locks, programmable control systems, building automation, emergency power generation, and more. The technician will also train staff and perform fieldwork as required.

Department Information

This position is open only to Colorado state residents. The post may fill multiple vacancies if applicable.

Division of Facilities Management – Northern Division

The Division provides facilities management services across CDHS agencies and offices, including maintenance of building and grounds, custodial services, capital construction, utilities, vehicle fleet, space leasing, and planning. The division manages 1,400 acres of land, 349 buildings, and around 1.9 million square feet across the Northern Region.

Duties
  • Verify operation of equipment in assigned areas, check and approve job requests, coordinate work assignments.
  • Order and receive materials, coordinate work with others, determine, advise and complete repairs as needed.
  • Supply up‑to‑date information to staff; perform related fieldwork, maintenance on a daily basis.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on programmable logic controllers, CCTV, security, access control, integrated security electronics, building automation, PCs and servers.
  • Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, design, fabricate, build and repair complex electronic devices, equipment and systems.
  • Read, interpret, design, draw and modify blueprints, wiring schematics and diagrams to service existing equipment.
  • Design systems utilizing knowledge of CCTV, electronic locks, PLCs, security alarms, access control, automation and integrated electronics.
  • Apply professional standards to design electronic and manually operated systems with little or no supervision.
  • Assemble control console, write all control software for logic controller, and install system.
  • Perform instruction and training on system to security personnel.
  • Install, repair, and replace electrical items such as circuits, switches, outlets, lighting, motors, and pumps.
  • Drive state vehicles as part of daily site‑to‑site work assignments.
  • Perform call backs and snow removal as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least two (2) years of experience installing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronic equipment such as security electronics, cameras, card access, building automation, and fire alarm systems.
  • Education relevant to the position may substitute for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis, with transcript authentication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with a wide variety of electronic systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of digital/analog electronics, telecommunications, computer networks, and IP/TCP/UDP/FTP protocols.
  • Fiber optics cable handling, termination, splicing, transceivers, and wireless transmitters.
  • Experience with building automation systems and Siemens Apogee systems (3+ years).
  • Strong project management and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to interpret and create electronic schematics; familiarity with conduit and wiring installation.
  • Experience with fire alarm systems and NICET certification preferred.
  • Fluency with MS Office Suite.

  • Current, valid Colorado driver’s license; out‑of‑state license holders must obtain Colorado license within 30 days.
  • Pass motor vehicle check.
  • Travel and state vehicle operation required.

  • Availability for call back, shift work, and emergency responses.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials may occur.
