The Field Service Technician – Fabrication is responsible for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and recommending corrective actions for RK Water equipment and piping systems at customer, project, or operating locations. This role supports equipment reliability and safe operation by documenting findings, obtaining required approvals, and completing approved repairs or corrections. The position requires the ability and willingness to travel as business needs require.

When not assigned to field travel, the technician will work in the shop performing technician duties, assembly, repairs, maintenance, testing, and support activities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Travel to customer sites, project locations, or operating facilities to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate mechanical equipment.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and functional checks to determine equipment condition, identify failures, and confirm root causes.
  • Repair, adjust, replace, or correct mechanical and piping components and systems, in accordance with company procedures, safety requirements, and technical standards.
  • Identify required repairs or corrective actions and provide clear technical recommendations to the appropriate internal or customer contacts.
  • Prepare accurate documentation of inspections, test results, deficiencies, repair recommendations, parts used, work performed, and follow-up actions required.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, engineering, operations, quality, or customer representatives to obtain required approvals before implementing repairs or corrections when needed.
  • Complete approved repairs, modifications, or corrective actions and verify equipment performance after work is complete.
  • Communicate job status, technical findings, delays, safety concerns, and material needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Follow all company, customer, and site-specific safety rules, including lockout/tagout, permit requirements, personal protective equipment requirements, and hazard reporting.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, service records, company assets, and assigned parts or materials in a clean, organized, and service-ready condition.
  • When not traveling, perform shop technician duties including equipment repair, assembly, disassembly, inspection, testing, maintenance, documentation, and general shop support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Accountability
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • All employees are accountable for safety and health and are empowered to stop work if an unsafe condition is present. Employees should immediately notify their supervisor so that the hazard may be corrected .
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 100% of the time, for several weeks at a time, including extended assignments, short-notice travel, overnight stays, and work at customer or project sites as business needs require.
  • When not traveling, the technician will report to the shop and perform assigned shop technician duties.
  • May be required to work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules to support field service needs, shutdowns, urgent repairs, or project deadlines.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environments including customer facilities, industrial sites, outdoor locations, and shop settings.
  • Must follow all safety procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, injuries, equipment concerns, or quality issues.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively while working at customer or project locations.
Physical Requirements
  • Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy and hazardous areas.
  • Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces and/or other adverse locations.
  • Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch.
  • Work in all types of weather.
  • Must have working knowledge of all trade materials and tools.
  • Ability to lift, move, and/or carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, pull, bend, kneel, climb, stand, and work around mechanical equipment as required by the job.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, diagnostic instruments, and applicable test equipment safely and effectively.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school, trade certification, or related mechanical training preferred.
  • Hands-on experience inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, or maintaining mechanical equipment and piping systems.
