Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic

Job Description

Duties / Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment.
• Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements.
• Repair and replace faulty parts and components, such as engines, transmissions, and brake systems.
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and address equipment malfunctions.
• Collaborate with equipment operators and other team members to understand and resolve issues.
• Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.
• Conduct inspections to identify potential problems and prevent breakdowns.
• Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements in heavy equipment.
• Operate a variety of tools and equipment to perform maintenance and repairs.
• Adhere to safety protocols and regulations in all maintenance and repair activities.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in heavy equipment mechanics is often required.
• Experience: Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
• Troubleshooting: Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Diagnostic Tools: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Mechanical Systems: Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in heavy equipment.
• Equipment Schematics: Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and schematics.
• Physical: Physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of the job.
• Attention to Detail: Attention to detail for accurate diagnosis and repairs.
• Communication: Strong communication skills for interacting with team members and operators.

Atlas Metal and Iron Corporation is an industrial scrap metal processor and seller. The
Company purchases both nonferrous and ferrous metallic scrap metal from industry and from the general
public including aluminum, brass, copper, lead, stainless steel, zinc, cast iron, and steel and processes
the incoming scrap metal by various methods including baling, cutting, chopping, shearing, and sorting.
The Company conducts business at its two locations in Denver, Colorado and Aurora, Colorado. The Company was founded in 1956 and is a family run business.
