Software Engineer II – Rocket Engines

Blue Origin is building reusable, safe, and low‑cost space vehicles and systems. The Software Engineer II – Rocket Engines role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit that designs, develops, manufactures, and tests engines and propulsion systems.
Overview: As a member of a small team, you will develop and verify avionics software for rocket engines. The position requires experience in embedded software for safety‑critical systems.
Responsibilities- Hands‑on development of real‑time embedded software that controls rocket engines for human‑capable spacecraft.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, coding, unit testing, and integration.
- Validate and verify safety embedded systems.
- B.S. degree or higher in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field.
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience developing and testing real‑time embedded systems (bare metal, RTOS, or Linux kernel).
- Experience with C/C++ and Python.
- Experience with Git and Git Lab.
- Experience with debugging techniques at the software/hardware boundary.
- Familiarity with serial communications and TCP/IP networking protocols.
- Familiarity with designing APIs and interfaces.
- Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and Agile methodologies.
- Strong learning agility, multitasking, and drive to complete tasks.
- Positive can‑do attitude and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with embedded avionics software.
- Experience designing, developing, and testing safety‑critical software systems.
- Familiarity with DO‑178 or NPR 7150.
- Experience with software requirements and UML.
- Familiarity with Dev Ops practices.
