Pay RangeBase pay: $18.00/hr hiring range for new employees:
Lifeguard $18.00/hr;
Lifeguard/Instructor $18.90 - $19.47 per hour, depending on certification(s).

Days, evenings, and weekends. Flexible hours.
Carpenter Recreation Center and Trail Winds Recreation Center.
Minimum QualificationsMust be at least 16 years of age.
Job Duties- Under specified supervision, performs lifeguard duties and lifesaving procedures.
- Entry-level Lifeguard: general life guarding duties with limited experience.
- Instructor-level: teach swim lessons for all levels, perform general lifeguard duties.
- Perform lifeguarding duties.
- Ensure safety of guests by observing swimmers.
- Perform lifesaving procedures as necessary.
- Provide quality customer service; enforce policies, rules, and regulations; govern conduct of patrons.
- Enforce accident prevention policies.
- Perform routine safety checks of pools, equipment, and surrounding aquatic area.
- Assist with routine cleaning, maintenance and repairs of aquatic equipment.
- Ensure safety measures observed.
- Respond to emergency situations; maintain accurate accident and incident reports.
- Comply with city rules and departmental policies.
- Assist with festivals and special events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Instructor:
Instruct swim lessons; keep accurate records of lessons; distribute swimming lesson report cards.
- Lifeguard:
Ellis and Associates National Pool and Water Park Lifeguard certification, CPR/AED, First Aid or obtain within 30 days. - Lifeguard Instructor:
Must pass IPAP training to teach swim lessons for levels Parent-Tot through Level 3 or have current swim instructor certification such as Red Cross, WSI or equivalent, or one year of teaching experience for all levels. - May need ability to travel to various locations.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of lifeguard processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of city policies and department procedures.
- Knowledge of swimming techniques.
- Skill in swimming 100 yards.
- Skill in performing lifesaving, CPR, AED and First Aid activities.
- Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
- Ability to work with the public.
- Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergencies.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or flexible schedules.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies.
- Ability to provide quality customer service.
- Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
- Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Instructor:
Skill in teaching all levels of swim lessons.
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger, grasping and feeling. Exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, 10 pounds constantly. Close visual acuity required. Exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions, heat, noise, atmospheric conditions.
Other Personnel RequirementsExaminations may include application screening, written, oral, practical exercise, or other job-related assessment. Background investigations may include credit report, driving record. Drug screen, physical and/or psychological examination required for pre-determined positions.
