Title:
** Mountain Safety Patrol Volunteer
** Volunteer
Summary:
** This is an opportunity to volunteer as a team player to help maintain and enforce safety through education and awareness. This includes understanding the Colorado Ski Safety Act and enforcing it on the slopes. You will stand at stations at 20 minute intervals around 6 times per day and focus on education and enforcement, using our Red Card program when appropriate.
You will also be asked to assist ski patrol in various duties such as maintaining scene safety, securing the toboggan, obtaining collision witness statements, etc. You will also conduct trail checks, looking for hazards and guests needing assistance. Guest service is a priority and we ask that you provide a positive guest experience while in and out of uniform. Other expectations are that you learn and use proper radio protocol and that you learn the mountain and are accurate in describing your location.
Volunteers are expected to provide service for a minimum of 14 days a season, 7 hours a day from November through April, although more days are welcomed. Volunteering 5 weekend days or holidays and during events (from early-season race training through USASA Nationals in April) is required as this is when our services are most needed. Medical skills are not required of MSP volunteers.
Successful applicants will be invited to a spring hiring clinic, which consists of a ski/ride skills assessment and interview. The skills assessment allows you to demonstrate that you have the skills necessary to provide optimal service to our mountain and to Ski Patrol. Follow-up interviews will be granted to those selected from the hiring clinic. Based on the information you provide in the application process you may be sent further questions to narrow down our selection field.
This is a very competitive program and we have little attrition each year.
