Under the general direction of the Executive Director and consistent with the Christian mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Healthy Living Director is responsible for all aspects of the Fitness Department. As a member of the professional staff, the Healthy Living Director is a constructive member of the YMCA whose major priority is to serve the members of the YMCA with the highest quality programs, services and facilities available.
Responsibilities- Ensuring that customer service is the foremost objective of the staff in the Fitness Department.
- Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Organizes people and activities for efficiencies and effectiveness. Directly supervises all aspects of the wellness staff teams.
- Direct supervision of the Fitness Floor Experience, Coordinator, and Trainers/Group Exercise.
- Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development which include but are not limited to - fitness and group exercise programs, active older adult programs, youth fitness programs.
- Design and implementation of Special Events including races, health fairs, lunch-and-learns, etc.
- Training staff to implement fitness appointments as an integral part of the wellness program.
- Facilitating membership growth and supporting member retention practices.
- Coordinating the repair and maintenance of equipment in the fitness center.
- Provide fitness assessments, orientations, personal training and group exercise class instruction.
- Achieve yearly annual campaign goal within department to help meet the branch’s Annual Campaign goal.
- Develop, implement, and monitor the supervised department budgets.
- Reporting to work promptly, and being well groomed and properly dressed according to the YMCA of Catawba Valley’s employee dress code.
- Provide leadership as Manager on Duty (MOD) as scheduled.
- Any other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or commensurate experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in management and supervision with YMCA or like organization.
- Current national certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, Personal Training, and Group Exercise.
- Proven success in budget development and management.
- Experience supervising employees.
- Highly developed organization skills and the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organization and management skills.
- Strong interpersonal relations and customer service skills.
- Ability to work well with volunteers, employees, and members.
- High professionalism, enthusiasm, and drive.
- Personal commitment to YMCA ideals.
- Ability to works nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.
- Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility.
