The Inpatient Unit Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day operational leadership of the Inpatient Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, coordinated, and patient-centered nursing care. The role oversees inpatient operations, supervises nursing staff, and promotes compliance with clinical governance, patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards. Working closely with the Nursing Manager and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, the Inpatient Unit Supervisor supports continuous service improvement while fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and compassionate inpatient care environment.

- Inpatient operations are effectively coordinated to ensure continuity of care, efficient patient flow, and optimal bed utilisation.

- Nursing resources, staffing, and operational processes are effectively managed to support uninterrupted patient care.

- Operational performance, patient outcomes, and continuous improvement initiatives are proactively monitored and supported.
A. Operational Leadership
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Inpatient Unit to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality nursing care.
- Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges, staffing, and workflow to maintain continuity of care.
- Monitor bed occupancy, patient flow, and operational readiness, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Ensure patient care areas, equipment, and clinical resources are operationally ready to support inpatient services.
- Promote compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Ensure safe nursing practices through adherence to clinical governance, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
- Support quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, accreditation activities, and incident investigations.
- Monitor clinical risks and support appropriate responses to patient deterioration and emergency situations.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and support to inpatient nursing staff.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and patient-centered working environment.
- Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, competency assessment, and performance feedback.
- Coordinate daily staff allocation and shift coverage to maintain safe and effective inpatient operations.
- Collaborate with medical practitioners, allied health professionals, pharmacy, laboratory, and other multidisciplinary teams to support coordinated patient care.
- Maintain effective communication regarding patient care requirements, operational issues, and discharge planning.
- Escalate operational or clinical concerns to the Nursing Manager in a timely manner.
- Prepare and maintain operational reports, nursing documentation, and relevant records.
- Monitor inpatient performance indicators and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.
- Participate in departmental projects, accreditation activities, and hospital commissioning initiatives as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Ners)
- Valid STR
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred
- Minimum 5 years experience in inpatient nursing or another relevant acute care setting
- Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory or leadership role
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Professional working proficiency in English is desirable
