Athletic Coach - Head Football Coach at Derby Public Schools

• Organize and supervise the entire athletic program.
• Implement all athletic policies approved by the Derby Board of Education.
• Interpret and consistently apply state, league, and system regulations.
• Understand the proper administrative chain of command and refer all requests or grievances through the appropriate channels.
• Design the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff.
• Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth and attendance at applicable policies.
• Delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate staff effectiveness at season’s end.
• Maintain discipline, address grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation.
• Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and tournament requirements.
• Assist in the preparation of scheduled sporting events or practices, and coordinate with maintenance and school employees.
• Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
• Supply proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
• Advise the athletic director and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes.
• Mentor student athletes, promoting trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Monitor student athletes’ grades and conduct; provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards at all practices, games, and travel.
• Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies, and complete paperwork on disabling injuries within 24 hours.
• Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians, and determine discipline procedures when necessary.
• Assist athletes in college or advanced educational selections.
• Participate in the budgeting function, establishing requirements for the next season and recommending equipment guidelines.
• Coordinate equipment issuance, storage, reconditioning, and inventory reporting.
• Ensure equipment rooms and coach offices are properly secured and monitored.
• Organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings; promote the sport within the school and the wider community.
• Maintain good public relations with news media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.

• Previous successful coaching experience in football.
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of football.
• Ability to continually examine new theories and procedures relevant to the field.
• Demonstrated role modeling for student athletes through instructions and actions.
