Role

Help shape commercial success on programmes that help create a safe and secure world

At Babcock, we're working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Commercial Advisor at any of our main UK locations, including Bristol, Rosyth, Devonport, London and Warrington. This role supports a varied portfolio of UK and international defence and engineering opportunities, offering exposure to high-profile programmes, senior stakeholders and the full commercial lifecycle.

The role

As a Commercial Advisor, you'll join our Marine Commercial team, supporting strategic defence, maritime and engineering opportunities from early engagement through to negotiation, mobilisation and delivery. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your commercial career while working on programmes that contribute to national security, international partnerships and critical infrastructure.

You'll work closely with colleagues across Legal, Finance, Procurement, Engineering and Programme teams, gaining broad exposure to bids, contracts and governance activities. Whether you're supporting commercial negotiations, identifying risks or helping mobilise new opportunities, your work will have a direct impact on business success and future growth.

Day-to-day, you'll be required to:

  • Supporting bids, business opportunities and commercial activities through negotiation and mobilisation.
  • Preparing and reviewing contracts, confidentiality agreements and tender documentation.
  • Identifying commercial risks and supporting governance, approvals and compliance activities.
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records, documentation and contract data.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to coordinate commercial input across programmes and opportunities.

This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. Flexible working arrangements are available. This role can be based on any of our main UK locations. Travel to other Babcock and customer sites will be expected.

Essential experience of the Commercial Advisor:

  • Experience supporting commercial, contractual, procurement, bid or tender activities.
  • Understanding of commercial terms, contracts and agreements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience managing documentation, competing priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach with the ability to work independently within agreed authority levels.

Qualifications for the Commercial Advisor:

  • No mandatory qualification is required.
  • Membership of, or progress towards, CIPS or World Commerce & Contracting accreditation would be advantageous.
