This is a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist post (10 sessions) at Lomond Ward providing adult mental health acute inpatient care in the grounds of Stratheden Hospital.

Lomond Ward is one of three General Adult inpatient wards covering Fife are currently located in three sites.

  • Lomond ward
    - Stratheden Hospital in Cupar (Glenrothes and North East Fife)
  • Ravenscraig ward
    - Whyteman's Brae Hospital in Kirkcaldy (Central Fife)
  • Ward 2 - Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline (West Fife)

In addition to this, Hollyview Ward is an 8 bed mixed gender intensive psychiatric care unit (IPCU) also located on the Stratheden hospital campus.

Each of the adult mental health wards serves a primary sector for local population but it's likely that patients from other areas may be admitted from time to time if required.

This post is for Lomond Ward. This is a mixed ward with a bed capacity of 22 with surge capability in extremis. The wards have a multidisciplinary teams ethos comprising core nursing staff with access to Occupational Therapy. The postholder will be expected to work alongside these other professionals to deliver a holistic treatment plan for each patient.

There is an emphasis on service development across the acute wards with a focus on providing a therapeutic environment including patient safety, meaningful activity and carer involvement. There are several work streams related to this and the postholder would be expected to become actively involved in elements of this where appropriate.

The post holder will be working alongside a full-time Specialty grade doctor, and 4 resident doctors. Full secretarial support will be made available, as will dedicated consultant office space.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR
- Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training to Non-UK Applicants must demonstrate that they have the knowledge, skills and experience required for practising as an eligible specialist in the UK.
