Overview
Education Personnel are recruiting a Higher Level Teaching Assistant for a large primary school in the DE21 area of Derby. The school is based on an open, spacious site with multiple shared teaching areas, and direct access from classrooms to outdoor learning zones. The layout supports structured intervention, cover teaching, and small-group work throughout the school day. HLTAs are used regularly to lead lessons, support across year groups, and provide continuity when teachers are released for planning or training.

This HLTA role suits someone who is confident taking responsibility for learning, managing a class independently when required, and working flexibly across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver planned lessons and learning activities in the teacher’s absence

• Lead small-group teaching and targeted interventions across the curriculum

• Support planning, assessment, and feedback in collaboration with class teachers

• Adapt lesson delivery to meet the needs of pupils, including those with SEN

• Manage classroom behaviour in line with agreed school systems

• Provide feedback on pupil progress to teaching staff and senior leaders

• Support whole-school activities and contribute to staff meetings when required

The Ideal Candidate

• Holds recognised HLTA status or equivalent qualification

• Has experience leading learning in a UK primary school

• Confident delivering lessons across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2

• Comfortable managing a class independently when required

• Strong understanding of behaviour management and classroom routines

• Communicates clearly with pupils, staff, and parents

• Flexible and reliable, with a professional approach to school life
