HLTA – Secondary & Alternative Provision Support
Full-Time | Derby Area | Immediate Start
Education Personnel, a leading education recruitment agency in the East Midlands, is seeking an experienced and versatile HLTA to join a highly regarded secondary school in Derby. This full-time role offers the opportunity to work across both the Alternative Provision (AP) unit and mainstream secondary classrooms, supporting pupils to achieve their potential in a nurturing and structured environment.
The Role
* Supporting pupils in the Alternative Provision unit, focusing on engagement, behaviour management, and reintegration into mainstream lessons
* Assisting teaching staff in general secondary classrooms, delivering structured learning and providing pastoral support
* Planning and delivering interventions, small group support, and individualised learning opportunities
* Supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, and behavioural needs
* Collaborating closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and senior leaders to provide a consistent, positive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will:
* Have experience working with secondary-aged pupils, particularly within AP, SEND, or behaviour-focused settings
* Be confident supporting teaching across multiple subjects or classrooms
* Be adaptable, resilient, and relationship-focused
* Have excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to build strong rapport with pupils
* Be committed to supporting pupils’ academic and personal development
Requirements:
* Previous experience as an HLTA, teaching assistant, or similar role in secondary education
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
* Willingness to register with Education Personnel
* Availability for a full-time position
