Art Teacher | Good Secondary School in Derby

A welcoming and supportive Good secondary school in Derby is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Art Teacher to join its dedicated Art and Design department. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher or ECT who is passionate about the arts and committed to helping students develop their creativity, technical ability and confidence.

Art teaching opportunities in Derby typically involve delivering practical and theory-based lessons across KS3 and KS4, with some schools also offering opportunities to teach KS5.

The successful candidate will become part of a collaborative department where creativity, high expectations and positive relationships with students are valued.

The Role

You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging Art lessons that allow students to explore a variety of techniques, materials and artistic styles. You will encourage students to experiment, develop their own ideas and build confidence in their creative abilities.

Teaching will cover areas such as drawing, painting, mixed media, photography and other creative disciplines, depending on your specialist skills and the school's curriculum.

You will also support students in developing portfolios and preparing for GCSE and, where appropriate, KS5 qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

Teach Art across KS3, KS4 and, where appropriate, KS5.

Plan and deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons.

Develop students' technical skills across a range of artistic media.

Encourage creativity, experimentation and independent thinking.

Prepare students effectively for GCSE Art and Design examinations.

Support students with coursework and portfolio development.

Assess student work and provide constructive feedback.

Differentiate lessons to meet a range of abilities and learning needs.

Maintain high standards of behaviour and presentation.

Create an inspiring and well-organised classroom environment.

Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development.

Support art clubs, exhibitions, competitions and wider enrichment activities.

Work collaboratively with colleagues across the department.

Maintain accurate records of student progress.

Follow all school safeguarding and behaviour policies.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate should hold QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification and have strong subject knowledge in Art and Design.

You should have:

QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.

Strong Art and Design subject knowledge.

Experience teaching Art at secondary level.

Confidence teaching KS3 and KS4.

Strong practical skills across a range of media.

Excellent classroom and behaviour management.

The ability to differentiate effectively.

Strong communication and organisational skills.

A passion for creativity and artistic education.

The ability to inspire and motivate students.

A commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.

A strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.

Experience teaching KS5, GCSE Art or Photography would be advantageous.
