Our busy clientis seeking an experienced Associate Structural Engineer to join their expanding Derby office. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven engineer to lead projects, support team development, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our structural engineering offering.
About the roleAs an Associate Structural Engineer, you will lead the delivery of structural engineering projects across a diverse portfolio; including commercial, residential, industrial, heritage, and bespoke structural schemes. You’ll manage design teams, maintain key client relationships, and provide technical leadership across the discipline.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the structural design of projects from feasibility to construction
- Produce and oversee high‑quality structural designs in steel, concrete, timber, and masonry
- Review and sign off calculations, drawings, models, and technical documentation
- Mentor and develop engineers and technicians within the structural team
- Manage project budgets, programmes, and client communication
- Coordinate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines
- Support business development and contribute to bids and proposals
We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with leadership presence and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding engineering solutions.
Essential:
- Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
- Chartered or near‑chartered status (IStruct
E or ICE) - Strong background in building structures design across key materials
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (e.g., Tekla Structural Designer, TEDDS, ETABS, Robot)
- Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and client‑facing skills
Desirable:
- Experience leading or developing a structural engineering team
- Familiarity with BIM processes and Revit workflows
- Experience with UK Building Regulations, design codes, and CDM
- Track record of winning or supporting business development activities
