Position Overview

The Superintendent, Process Engineering and Process Control leads the technical engineering activities at the Colonsay potash operation. The role combines strong process engineering capability with applied process control expertise to support plant performance, project delivery, and continuous improvement.

Location & Travel

Onsite, Colonsay. Occasional travel to other Mosaic potash operations may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of process engineers, providing coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance.
  • Support technical troubleshooting and day-to-day engineering for milling operations, eliminating barriers to production targets.
  • Oversee and participate in process improvement initiatives, including debottlenecking, capacity increases, product quality improvements, and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Support capital projects through scoping, design input, commissioning, and post‑startup optimization.
  • Monitor performance and operational excellence through KPI review, process data analysis, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Develop short and long‑term improvement plans that enhance safety, reliability, production, product quality, and cost performance.
  • Provide technical oversight and strategic direction for process control systems, including PLC, DCS, and HMI/SCADA applications.
  • Identify, prioritize, and support automation and process control initiatives that improve operational performance and deliver measurable business value.
  • Support development of process control capability within the engineering team and act as a key stakeholder in alarm management and process control standardization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and technical teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.
  • Support development of engineering capability across the potash business through education, knowledge sharing, standardization, and collaboration with the broader Potash Process Engineering Team.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    B.Sc./B.Eng. or M.Sc./M.Eng. in Chemical, Industrial Systems Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in process engineering in an industrial environment, preferably in mineral processing, mining, or heavy industrial operations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or engineering functions in an operational environment.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGS or the ability to become registered.
  • Strong understanding of process engineering fundamentals, including process optimization, troubleshooting, and unit operation performance.
  • Experience supporting plant operations and executing process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, including design, commissioning, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with process control systems and control strategy development in industrial operations.
  • Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems, particularly Emerson DeltaV, is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with OSIsoft PI data historian, including PI Vision and Asset Framework, is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of statistical process control and data analysis is considered an asset.
  • Strong verbal, written, listening, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to present and discuss technical information clearly, persuade others, and establish rapport.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving techniques and strong analytical skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team across the organization.
