Senior Engineer - Substation

Senior Engineer | Substation Civil 45,000 - 55,000 + 5,500 car allowance + private healthcare Site based | Derbyshire National Grid Project Carrington West is working with an established tier 1 civil engineering contractor that is growing its Transmission and Distribution business. They are looking for a Senior Engineer for a major substation project. You would take technical ownership of your own civils work areas from first setting out through to handover.

The role

You'll report to the Sub Agent/Site Agent and be the engineering lead for your work areas. That means making sure what's on the drawings can actually be built, controlling quality on site, and making sure the records hold up t you'll be doing

Setting out, survey control and dimensional checks across your packages

Reviewing construction drawings, finding problems early, and raising and closing out technical queries (TQs)
Advising on build ability for foundations, bunds, control buildings, cable routes, earthing, drainage and access roads

Coordinating with the electrical, protection & control, cabling, steelwork and commissioning teams

Briefing the workforce and making sure work follows the approved RAMS, permits and hold points, including excavation, lifting and temporary works

Writing and running ITPs, check sheets and inspection records

Managing material approvals, concrete and test records, red-line drawings and as builts

Closing out defects and non-conformance reports (NCRs) with proper root-cause evidence

Producing short term look-aheads with supervisors and subcontractors, tracking progress and keeping clear records to support change control

What you'll needA degree or HNC in civil engineering, or equivalent

Senior Engineer experience on major civils, energy or substation projects

Tier 1 experience is essentialA CSCS or EUSR card Temporary Works Supervisor competenceCAT & Genny Good AutoCAD skills and confidence with digital document controlA full UK driving licence

It would be great if you also had Experience in live 132kV, 275kV or 400kV substationsEUSR SHEA PowerSMSTS or SSSTSWhere the client's site safety rules require it, the employer will arrange the client's own authorisations and site specific training after you join.
