The individual is a male 15 years old and resides in Cottingham. He is a loving and caring young man and wants to find someone who can and will interact with him, help him with his socialisation and just sit and talk to him. He finds it very hard at times to make friends and after long discussions about this he is excited to meet the person who will become his PA.They
require a dedicated and suitable person to support them due to their ADHD, attachment and trauma-related needs, and episodes of anxiety
They like/enjoy:
- Fishing.
- Playing on Roblox
- Steam games
- He has pet hamsters that he loves to talk about and show people
- He absolutely loves Theme parks. Roller coaster Obsessed
- Loves all Godzilla films and merchandise from all films
- Loves animals and going to the Zoo.
Enjoys discussing and researching topics of personal interest. May prefer alternatives to shopping and busy community activities.
Benefits from a calm, respectful and patient communication style. Clear and consistent communication is important.
Benefits from support that recognises when a break or additional personal space may be needed. A low-pressure approach can help promote positive engagement.
May need additional time to process information and respond to requests. Support workers should allow processing time and avoid repeated prompts where possible. Being responsive to individual cues and preferences will help ensure effective support.
About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Be his friend first and foremost.
- Show him life outside the house is a safe place to be without mum and just with a friend.
- Assisting the individual with choosing clothes when appropriate.
- Helping put shoes on.
- Assisting the individual with accessing activities and spending time out in the community.
- Attending/transporting the individual to social activities.
- Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.
About the candidate
The suitable candidate must:
- Be motivated, proactive and able to work on their own initiative.
- Be patient, caring and understanding.
- To have knowledge and understanding of ADHD.
- To have knowledge and understanding of Adoption.
- To have knowledge and understanding of Trauma and Attachment.
- Have good communication skills (clear and effective/calm communication).
- Be able to build a positive relationship with the individual to both encourage and support them.
- Have previous experience supporting an individual with additional needs.
- Be flexible to accommodate the hours of work where necessary.
- Must have use of own car, to transport individual to social activities.
- Be comfortable with animals to assist with the individual's hamsters.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.
Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don’t necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.
TravelSome travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
