An elderly gentleman living in Greenlaw, near Duns
, with his wife is looking for a kind, friendly, and reliable Companion Worker to provide regular companionship and support within his home.

This is a lovely opportunity for someone who enjoys spending time with others and would like to make a positive difference to someone’s day. The role will provide companionship and reassurance while giving the gentleman’s wife some much-needed time for herself, knowing that his husband is in safe and supportive company.

The gentleman enjoys playing games, watching television, and having friendly conversation. The successful candidate will help create a relaxed and enjoyable environment, encouraging activities and interaction at his own pace.

A very good level of previous experience supporting someone living with dementia is essential for this role. The successful candidate should have a good understanding of how dementia can affect communication, interaction, mood, and daily routines, and be confident providing calm, patient, and person-centered support.

This role could be particularly well suited to someone with care experience who is looking for a small number of regular hours alongside other commitments.

• Provide friendly companionship and support within the home.
• Spend time with the gentleman through conversation and shared activities.
• Encourage and engage in light activities such as games and watching television.
• Assist with meals, drinks, and general comfort as required.
• Promote the gentleman’s wellbeing, dignity, and independence.
• Provide reassurance and a calm, supportive presence.
• Support the gentleman in a way that recognises and responds appropriately to the effects of dementia.
• Follow any agreed guidance to ensure consistent and person-centered support.
• Work respectfully within the family home and alongside his wife.

• A good level of previous experience supporting someone living with dementia is essential.
• A good understanding of dementia and how it can affect communication, behaviour, mood, and daily routines.
• Previous experience in care, companionship, or support work.
• Good communication skills and the ability to provide calm, patient, person-centred support.
• Experience of supporting someone within their own home would be beneficial.
• Dementia training is preferred but not essential
  , provided the candidate has strong practical experience supporting people living with dementia.
• The successful candidate should be open to considering any additional training that may be identified as appropriate during the recruitment process.

• Position: Companion Worker
• Location: Greenlaw / Duns
• Hours: 5 hours per week.
• Working Pattern: Regular hours, with the specific day and time to be agreed with the employer. The preference is for a consistent routine.
• Rate of Pay: £14.05 per hour.
• Holiday Entitlement: 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata.
• Probationary Period: 6 months.
• Mileage/Travel: To be discussed with the employer.
• Appointment: Subject to satisfactory references and PVG / Disclosure Scotland check.
