Job Description & How to Apply Below
Job Title:
Recruitment Consultant (Engineering & Construction)
Location:
Derby
Salary: £30-£35k
The Opportunity
Our client is launching a new recruitment division focused initially on supplying skilled blue-collar workers into the engineering and construction sectors.
They are looking for an experienced, commercially driven Recruitment Consultant who wants more than simply inheriting a desk and filling vacancies. This is an opportunity to build something from the ground up.
You’ll take ownership of developing the recruitment offering, winning new clients, building candidate communities and establishing our client as a credible recruitment partner across engineering and construction.
Importantly, recruitment is also part of a much bigger strategy. By helping employers solve their immediate workforce challenges, you’ll build relationships that can naturally develop into broader conversations around skills, apprenticeships, workforce development and commercial training delivered through other areas of the wider Group.
What You’ll Be Doing
This will initially be a hands-on 360° recruitment role, combining business development, account management and candidate delivery. You’ll have considerable autonomy to shape how the division develops.
Key Responsibilities
* Build a new recruitment desk focused on blue-collar engineering and construction roles.
* Identify and engage employers with ongoing or high-volume recruitment requirements.
* Generate new business through telephone, Linked In, networking, referrals and face-to-face meetings.
* Build strong relationships with hiring managers, operational leaders and business owners.
* Understand clients’ immediate labour requirements as well as their longer-term workforce challenges.
* Source, screen and manage candidates across engineering, construction and associated technical environments.
* Build sustainable candidate pipelines and talent pools in key occupational areas.
* Manage the complete recruitment process from initial vacancy through to placement and onboarding.
* Negotiate rates, salaries, terms and commercial agreements.
* Develop repeat business rather than relying on one-off placements.
* Work closely with colleagues across the wider Group to identify opportunities where recruitment conversations can develop into wider training and skills solutions.
* Help shape the recruitment division’s proposition, processes, target markets and future growth strategy.
What They Are Looking For
* A successful track record within 360° recruitment.
* Experience recruiting into engineering, manufacturing, construction, trades, technical or other blue-collar markets.
* Strong business-development skills and confidence winning new clients.
* The ability to pick up the phone, create conversations and open doors.
* Experience building candidate networks within skills-short markets.
* A strong understanding of what makes employers buy recruitment services.
* Commercial confidence around rates, margins and negotiations.
* Excellent relationship-building skills.
* The ability to operate independently without needing to be heavily managed.
* A genuine appetite to build a desk — and ultimately help build a business unit.
Experience of temporary, contract or permanent recruitment within engineering or construction would be valuable, with the exact market focus shaped around the strengths and network of the successful person.
The Person
They aren’t necessarily looking for someone who wants to remain a Recruitment Consultant forever. They are interested in someone who can look at a blank sheet of paper and see an opportunity.
Someone entrepreneurial. Someone who enjoys winning business. Someone who gets satisfaction from turning a new client into a long-term relationship. Someone who can operate with freedom but also takes responsibility for delivering results.
