Zero‑to‑Employable Coded Welder Programme (4 Weeks - Derby)

Programme Overview

This intensive four‑week programme, delivered in Derby in partnership with Tecforce as the specialist training provider, is designed to take individuals with no previous welding or engineering experience and develop them into job‑ready welders with industry‑recognised qualifications. The programme blends hands‑on training, technical development, and employability support to create a direct pathway into skilled welding roles across the region.

Programme Structure

Week 1 – Foundations & Safety

Introduction to workshop environments, tools, and equipment
Safe working practices, PPE, and hazard awareness, abrasive wheels course
Basic hand skills: measuring, marking out, cutting, grinding, material preparation
Understanding weld joints, positions, and materials
Week 2 – Core Welding Skills

MIG, TIG, or MMA fundamentals (based on employer demand)
Machine setup, torch control, bead laying, and plate practice
Identifying and correcting weld defects
Building consistency, accuracy, and confidence
Week 3 – Coded Welding Preparation

Training aligned to BS EN ISO 5817 acceptance criteria level B
Positional welding practice (e.g., PD, PF)
Working to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
Mock test preparation and supervised practice
Week 4 – Testing & Employability

Completion of BS EN ISO 17637 Visual Testing Course (Tecforce Certification)
Final coded welding test attempt (BS EN ISO 9606-1)
CV support, interview preparation, and job‑readiness coaching
Workplace expectations and behaviours for engineering environments
