Part‑Time School Caretaker

Location:

Multiple schools across Derby.

Hours:

Monday to Friday, approximately 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm (20 hours per week). Pay: £13.50 – £14.00 per hour. No shifts during school holidays.

• Carrying out general site maintenance, minor repairs and basic DIY.
• Opening and locking the school site each day.
• Cleaning classrooms, corridors, dining areas and changing rooms to a high standard.
• Litter picking and keeping outdoor areas tidy.
• Setting up and putting away furniture for lessons and school activities.
• Recording deliveries and monitoring stock levels.
• Supporting fire safety procedures and assisting vulnerable individuals during evacuations.
• Helping with lunchtime setup and clean‑down.
• Assisting external contractors and overseeing maintenance works.
• Completing compliance checks and logging findings accurately.

• Previous caretaker, janitor, handyperson or site support experience is helpful (not essential).
• Enhanced Child DBS dated within the last 12 months (or willingness to obtain – we can help).
• Able to lift and move furniture and equipment.
• Confident communicator with a positive, can‑do attitude.
• Able to work independently and manage your time well.
• Familiar with cleaning products, equipment and safe working practices.
