Our MV Switchgear division designs and manufactures electrical distribution equipment for business‑critical applications throughout Europe. Due to continued growth, Vertiv is seeking to recruit an ambitious and motivated System Protection Engineer to join our team.

• Develop programmable logic files using ABB’s PCM
  600, Schneider Electric’s Easergy Pro, SEL’s AcSELerator Quickset, and DIGSI 5.
• Understand 3‑phase power systems and standard electrical equations.
• Read protection studies and determine pickup & drop‑off currents, transformer ratios, and circuit breaker trip times (both definite time and IEC curve).
• Read electrical schematics to identify problems and trace them to root cause.
• Liaise with project managers to ensure projects meet technical requirements outlined in specifications and technical sub‑documents.
• Communicate with a multi‑disciplinary team—design, production, test, and EMS engineers—to meet deadlines and ensure high‑quality integrated products.
• Test switch gear functionality to confirm programmable logic execution.
• Perform secondary inject testing of current transformers, proving circuit breaker tripping operation times against protection study expectations.
• Build an understanding of switch gear function and general operation, interoperate site‑wide SLDs to gain power flow insights.
• Read in‑house wiring drawings to fault‑find and troubleshoot issues during commissioning and post hand‑over.
• Present projects to clients during FWT (Factory Witness Test) proving product meets requirements before dispatch; address questions and modify post‑FWT based on feedback.
• Conduct SAT (Site Acceptance Test) to clients to ensure product is fully functional upon installation.
• Provide client support, traveling to sites to resolve outstanding issues highlighted during commissioning before energisation.
• Develop proficiency in IEC
  61850 communication standard, including MMS (Client‑Server) and GOOSE (Peer‑Peer); use tools such as IED Scout to troubleshoot IED networks.

• Electrical and Electronic Engineering BEng/MEng, or other relevant degree, or Distinction grade HND.
• 1 year industrial placement in manufacturing or design, or work experience in a relevant field.
• Ability to read electrical schematics.
• Positive attitude, desire to learn, and grow as an engineer.
• Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe occasionally.

• Interest in programmable logic (e.g., Arduino or Raspberry Pi).
• Good communication and presentation skills.
• Experience wiring control panels of any description.
• Good time management; ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Experience with primary/secondary injection of current and voltage.
• Data centre/on‑site commissioning experience.
• Willingness to work overtime as required.

Travel: 5‑10% across EMEA.
