Advanced Pharmacist – Diabetes and Endocrinology
Are you looking to develop your skills in expert clinical practice as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team? An opportunity has arisen to join our Community Care Collaborative, with the chance to specialise in Diabetes and Endocrinology. The post holder will act as a key pharmacy contact for the directorate, supporting a range of clinical and operational projects and contributing to the senior pharmacist team.
We are looking for someone with extensive clinical pharmacy skills and experience; you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong team spirit and the ability to motivate others. You must demonstrate confidence as an advanced clinical pharmacist and act as a role model for early‑career and trainee pharmacists.
This post is based at West Cumberland Hospital, with cross‑site responsibilities and collaboration with colleagues across the wider Trust to develop and deliver pharmacy services.
Main Duties- Work closely with clinicians and nursing colleagues to support and promote the safe and effective use of medicines within the relevant directorates and ensure the cost‑effective use of resources.
- Lead, deliver, and develop pharmacy services to relevant community care directorates in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.
- Act as a pharmacist prescriber, developing the role for designated areas of clinical practice.
- Support the development of early‑career and trainee pharmacists.
- Act as a senior member of the pharmacy team, assisting with management of day‑to‑day operational duties as required.
- Act as a line manager for designated band 6 or 7 pharmacists.
- Actively participate in regional and national network forums to develop and improve clinical practice and share learning.
- The post includes weekend working, participation in the bank holiday rota, and on‑call duties.

Essential:
- Pharmacy degree (Masters or equivalent)
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Higher pharmacy professional/post‑graduate qualification
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Desirable:
- On the practising register of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPS)
- Pharmacist prescribing qualification
- Teaching and assessing qualification
Essential:
- Extensive specialist therapeutic and clinical knowledge relevant to the post and collaborative
- Expert knowledge of relevant pharmacy/medicines standards, legal requirements and guidelines
- Knowledge of implications of current developments in pharmacy practice and NHS strategies/policy
- Knowledge of current and planned developments in the pharmacy profession
- Understanding of NHS managerial and financial frameworks
Desirable:
- Evidence of successful change management
- Understanding of ePACT and other prescribing data
- Knowledge of primary care prescribing and medicines management arrangements
